Integrity
Integrity is everything —- unknown DA
“Do first-class business in a first-class way” a phrase coined by John Pierpont Morgan, founder of the banking dynasty that bears his name, a phenomenal platform as it stands today. In harmony with that approach, Oliver Lyttelton (Viscount Of Chandos) also once said, “In business, a reputation for keeping absolutely to the letter & spirit of an agreement, even when it is unfavourable, is the most precious of assets.” Further cementing this, Don King stated that if, “You sign an agreement, you make a contract, you live up to it.” And Chuck Berry, pioneer of rock & roll, waxed lyrical that, “A contract is an ask game, & if it asks for an hour, & I submit to an hour, then it’s an hour. When I look at a contract, I look at the obligation: where, when, how long, the compensation. If l agree to it, that’s the way it is. I have an obligation. They have an obligation.”
All of the aforementioned legends, leaders in their respective fields, clearly point towards “INTEGRITY” when conducting & agreeing to do business. However, how you “do first-class business in a first-class way” also includes how you treat people. Hence, INTEGRITY is:
▪️PRACTICING YOUR VALUES NOT JUST PROFESSING THEM.
▪️CHOOSING COURAGE OVER COMFORT.
▪️CHOOSING WHAT’S RIGHT OVER WHAT’S FUN, FAST OR EASY.
▪️NOT LYING OR TAKING CREDIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK.
No matter how senior, educated, talented, rich or “cool” you believe you are, how you TREAT people ultimately tells all. This means INTEGRITY is everything. Sticking to your word & NOT LYING, especially if you’re a leader in a position of power is critical for building reputation & trust, something the aforementioned icons advocated. If you’re found out doing the opposite, all shatters. Therefore, critical to how one “earns their stripes” is how you uphold what you’ve been contracted to deliver, not only out of respect for the people who have backed you but also for your own dignity. As such, only thing one should care to “shatter” is the competition, “in a first class way”, of course….
