LESS IS MORE
He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature —- Socrates
I’ve ALWAYS associated “wealth” with money. Born on welfare on a council estate & state educated in the UK, I’ve always fought to be in a job to make me “rich”, so that I can buy all the trappings that money affords us, thinking these “items” is where I’ll find happiness b/c we’ve been taught that these “things” are what success & happiness are.
However, I’ve found that the joy of buying “expensive goods” is fleeting, never offering “connection” the way we need as humans – of course they couldn’t. Whilst we need money to pay our bills in “the matrix” that we’ve been born into, money cannot buy peace, good health or happiness. Ever.
On my current travels, I decided to strip things back, staying at more basic places & be outdoors a lot more. Being outdoors made me realise that, we are ACTUALLY ALL BORN INTO WEALTH. By that, I don’t mean money or assets. I mean our environment. Wherever we are, the worst we have is the sky up above us to wonder at. Nature’s beauty isn’t just gorgeous beaches & sun, it’s the rain, the grass, the trees, flowers, forests or any bit of nature around. If only we’d look to appreciate it, we’d realise that we’re RICH beyond our wildest imagination & that the BEST things in life, all of which that are FREE, make us WEALTHY, yet we disregard it b/c it’s free!
I’m discovering that you’ll be happier if you begin to take into account the true value of nature: it’s our most precious asset. The more you really look at nature, the more you’ll realise that the remedy for fear, loneliness or unhappiness is to go outside, somewhere where you can be quite, alone with nature or just look up to the sky, b/c you’ll end up finding more that what you originally sought….
