I Like the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas

I like the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas more than the actual one —- @david_lachapelle

Alexandre Eiffel, the engineer behind the (actual) Eiffel Tower, questioned, “Can one think that because we are engineers, beauty does not preoccupy us?” As an engineer, his “discipline” was to build functional structures, as opposed to “objects of beauty” that artists create. But, in building the Eiffel Tower, he demonstrated his ability to overlay BOTH functional & artistic skills in his work, testing the ability to hold two opposing skills whilst retaining the aptitude to build, suggesting his cognitive flexibility & intellectual prowess; he was an outlier.

Eiffel’s work blended functionality with artistry. This ability to entertain seemingly conflicting skills—both artistic & logical—requires nuanced thinking, open-mindedness & the capacity to consider various perspectives. Individuals who can hold opposing skills in their minds are better equipped to make informed decisions, think critically & adapt to changing circumstances. They challenge the paralysing notion that one must be either “artistic” or “logical,” proving that embracing & applying both can be incredibly valuable. This highlights the importance of fostering outliers who embrace complexity, tolerate uncertainty & engage in intellectual inquiry with diverse skill sets because our world needs more outliers to challenge us & enrich the broader narrative….

The “half-scale” replica of the Parisian landmark @parisinvegas allows one to rise above the frenzy of “The Strip,” offering each voyeur a different perspective 46 stories high, with towering views, from which one can maybe ponder their own conflicting views….
