It All Depends on How We Look

It all depends on how we look at things and not on how things are in themselves. The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it — Carl Jung

The core of Carl Jung’s theory system was the belief that the whole of the individual’s experience should be respected & included, rather than negative or unwanted aspects being ignored. BOTH positive & negative experiences are helpful IF you allow the lessons to be learnt; this fosters growth.

Things are as they are. But perceiving them as they are can be difficult b/c we filter them through societal standards & processes that we’re supposed to adhere to, that are ultimately fallible. Hence, an unpleasant event can be made more acceptable by choosing how we perceive it. Human’s have the capacity to selectively employ a perspective that can view “woeful situations” as desirable by seeing the optimistic opportunity in any situation. Pretending we’re doing well until things improve themselves is the basis for POSITIVE affirmations.

Belief in imagining we can have our needs met, if we just envision & feel it strongly enough, is a uniquely seductive strategy that can make what we want come to fruition IF we put plans into action that back that vision. While this can help maintain motivation, it does nothing in itself to generate success. It’s the positive feedback system that’s key here, so when things turn out well it’s great, but when things turn difficult, one should “spiral in” & focus on how you might do things differently next time based on what they have learned from your current situation.

Jung probably never made it to Las Vegas but I’m sure if he did, he would have embraced the both the heights & depths of human experience on “The Strip”….
