Even in the midst of this pandemic, suicide remains the single biggest killer of men under the age of 50 in the U.K. Yet, this isn’t spoken about anywhere near as much as the severity of the situation deserves. Nor is there enough mental health support, counselling or therapy made available to help people with this – something that remains “taboo” to admit needing help with.

For anyone reading this that feels low, please be reminded that your situation can change, you can LIFT from the depths of wherever you are. There are times in life when it’s possible to sink to real lows, lose everything that means anything to you, be left flawed & abandoned. At that point you have 2 choices: allow yourself to stay down & sink lower, or choose to be open to the FACT that you can rise again, stronger than before.

However, you have to be brutally honest with yourself in your assessment of the part you played in your situation. Then accept that changing your situation constitutes many small steps of “improvement”. We have all heard the term “baby steps” & so often, we ignore it, but that is exactly what one needs to focus upon, accepting that it doesn’t all happen at once. If you do not find a way to change, to correct those flaws that helped lead to your demise (despite whatever roles others may have played), your situation will never really change.

The first real step? GET HELP. Even if you think you do not need it, trust me, you probably do: I CERTAINLY DID! Find a counsellor you can afford to see or find someone in your life that will truly listen, without judgement.

Once you accept, with honesty, the part you played in how things fell apart in your life, then and only then can you finally begin to move forward and start finding the positivity that really does surround you to help rebuild.

Be patient with yourself, take one day at a time, one step at a time & expect setbacks. The key to all of this is regaining REAL self confidence: refocus your life on the positives in your life & maintaining a positive mental attitude. It’s not easy, but it is DEFINITELY POSSIBLE for all to achieve #mindsetiseverything
