People Say That Time Goes
People say that time goes by; time says that the people go by – Vietnamese Expression
Vietnamese art has a rich history that has spanned many influences over time from China in the 2nd century BC, to the ascendancy of French art that took hold of Vietnam in the 19th century, which has had a large role in the birth of modern-day Vietnamese art. Regardless of external forces, time shows that Vietnamese artisans, past and present, have always retained many distinctively native characteristics over the centuries.
The profound talent of the Vietnamese is all around Hanoi but witnessing local Vietnamese artists creating their wares in local villages is literally “art in motion” – their craftsmanship is a true finesse. Hence, going off-the-beaten track out of the centre of Hanoi to visit incense makers, conical hatters, potters, calligraphers and lacquer artists in their respective villages is something worth spending a moment to look into, if you ever get the opportunity. Some glimpses attached…..
