Veni Vidi Vici

Veni, vidi, vici: I came, I saw, I conquered —- Julius Caesar

“Never give up” is a mantra many successful people live by. I agree. But only if what you’re doing is where you should be & if the challenge of staying is worth the potential reward. If it is, keep going, evolving & trying new strategies until you “conquer” your goal, or maybe even a better one.

However, “to conquer” can also mean knowing when to quit. If the situation you’re in isn’t where you should be & the effort to make it better isn’t worth it, acknowledging this is a game-changer for your well-being. Moving on from a toxic environment is a win. It means you went, you observed, you determined it wasn’t working for you, & you were brave enough to cut ties instead of staying to save face.

Why? Because you want more from life. Quitting in this sense isn’t about the task being too hard; it’s because you want more, you deserve more & you’re willing to do what it takes to get more. Quitting takes courage, self-belief & the realisation that you’d rather fail at something you’re fully engaged with, than succeed at something you aren’t.

Hence, quitting in this context is the process through which growth can occur. Shedding what’s not working to make way for the new is the only way forward, even if it’s uncomfortable. As such, “to quit” becomes a battle truly “conquered”. Something that people who win in life seem to understand more often than not.
